Choosing an honest International Shipping Company

This guide will help you decide on the hiring of an International Freight Forwarding Company. Before giving your goods to an International Shipping Agent, there are a two thing you need to know. Read this to save your company and yourself from a potential disaster.
  1. All international shipping companies have to be licensed by the Federal Maritime Commission in order to ship cargo overseas. Prior to making a decision to ship your cargo or move your personal effects overseas, make sure the company you choose is bonded and licensed by the FMC for shipping international. Whether you are shipping freight or moving overseas, you should be aware of the importance of a good International Shipping Agent.
  2. Watch out for unrealistic estimates. If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is! A lot of shipping companies might offer you a very low quote, but may lie to you about the hidden fees. Last thing you want is for your cargo to arrive and then be held hostage at double or triple the price from your original shipping estimate. Believe it or not, this happens quite often. Freight Shipping Companies may offer a cheap price but fail to tell you about fees like terminal handling charges, fuel, documentation, security, loading, etc. The cosignee is responsible for all these charges and a reliable company should inform you before the shipment departs.

If you do not pay your full invoice after your cargo is picked up, you will be charged storage fees and your freight may eventually be salvaged and destroyed. Furthermore, the company force you into collections for not paying your invoice.
